Farnborough to Newmarket Racecourses

Newmarket is the headquarters of British flat racing — 2,500 racehorses in training across the town, the Jockey Club Rooms on the High Street, Tattersalls running four major bloodstock sales a year, and two racecourses (the Rowley Mile and the July Course) operating separate meetings across the season. The Guineas Festival in early May, the July Festival in mid-July and the Tattersalls sales weeks are the demand peaks; the weekly Saturday card runs from April through October.

The routing is M3 to M25 anticlockwise, M11 north from Junction 27, A14 east from M11 J14, then the Newmarket bypass to the racecourse entrances. About 110 miles, 2h 15m wheels-turning on a normal day, 2h 45m on a Festival Saturday. The A14 from Junction 37 is well-organised for race traffic and rarely creates the marshal-directed queueing of Cheltenham or Aintree.

Gate allocation depends on which course and which enclosure. Rowley Mile has the Champions Stand, Premier Enclosure and Grandstand entrances. July Course has its own separate access point on the southern side of the town. Tattersalls sales rounds use a different approach via Park Paddocks. The Jockey Club Rooms on the High Street are for owners and members with their own forecourt. Your Client Coordinator confirms the exact destination the day before.

Tattersalls sales weeks are the year-round professional booking. December Sales (yearlings), January Horses-in-Training, the Craven Sales in April and the October Yearling Sales each draw international bidders — owners flying into Cambridge or Stansted, trainers travelling from across Europe, vets and bloodstock agents working the sales ring.
