Farnborough to Brighton

Brighton is one of the easier southern runs once you know the A23 — the difficulty is timing, not navigation. The M23 corridor from the M25 down to Pease Pottage is straightforward; the A23 from Crawley to Patcham roundabout is the bit that varies wildly by day of week. School-run hours are unforgiving; conference week in October doubles the city-centre traffic; the seafront one-way system between the Marina and Hove turns a quoted ten-minute drop into thirty when there is an event at the Brighton Centre.

The seafront geography is what we know that newcomers don’t. The Grand Hotel is on King’s Road eastbound only — the driver can stop in the layby outside but cannot loop round; the Hilton Metropole is next door but the kerb zone is shared with conference taxis during October; the Hove hotels (Best Western, Holiday Inn Brighton) are on the westbound King’s Road with different stopping arrangements. Brighton Centre conference traffic is its own world. During Labour and Conservative party-conference weeks in late September and early October, the entire seafront from Hove to the Marina goes under a security cordon. We pre-position outside the cordon at the agreed pickup point, you walk through the security perimeter with hand luggage, and we run the bags separately to your hotel address.
