The truth about Farnborough Airshow traffic — survival guide
Farnborough Airshow traffic is worse on the public Sunday than the trade Wednesday. Pre-book the night before. Trade days draw 30,000 visitors with staggered arrivals; public weekends draw 90,000 in a four-hour window. The A325, A327 and Lynchford Road become car parks from 09:00 to 11:00 and again from 16:30 to 18:30.
The hour-by-hour reality
From 08:00 the slip roads off the A331 to Farnborough Airport (TAG) start to back up. By 09:30 inbound traffic on the A325 from Aldershot is stationary as far as the Wellington Statue. From 16:00 the airshow ends, and the entire flow reverses. If you are travelling to or from Farnborough on an airshow day, plan around it — or pre-book a driver who knows the rat-runs.
Routes our drivers actually take
From Camberley, we approach via Frimley Green and the back lanes through Mytchett, avoiding the A325 entirely. From Fleet, we drop south through Crookham Village rather than going through Farnborough town. From Aldershot, we cut across via Ash Vale. These routes add 5–10 minutes in normal traffic but save 30–60 minutes on airshow weekends.
FAQ
Are road closures published in advance?
Rushmoor Borough Council publishes the airshow traffic management plan a fortnight before the show. The Lynchford Road closure to public traffic and the A325 contraflow are predictable.
Can I book on the day?
Possible but not recommended. Demand spikes 4× normal on the public Sunday. Pre-booking the night before is the only way to guarantee a car at your time.
Do you cover airshow VIP transfers?
Yes — we run executive transfers for trade-day delegates between hotels and the show. Business accounts get priority dispatch and consolidated billing.
